Ever Watched A Little Red Flying Fox Eat A Grape? Meet Jackie, In Mandi's Bat Aviary

It was nearly dinner time in Mandi's bat aviary and little Jackie was hanging on the entrance door to the aviary waiting.

So Mandi gave her one of the really big green grapes from the chopped up fruit she was putting into their food troughs.

See what happens as Jackie struggles with the size of the grape, which was huge relative to her small body size.

But she wasn't about to drop it or let anyone steal it as she hid it away from the other bats! Very funny!

FUN FACTS ABOUT LITTLE RED FLYING FOXES

The little red flying fox is one of the smallest species of mega-bats found in Australia.

Their distribution is from New South Wales in western Australia, through Queensland, and concentrating in the northern Australian region.

Little red flying foxes roost in large camps near and on trees. They cluster or clump in large numbers resembling large bunches of grapes.

They are a migratory flying fox and their camps constantly move, rarely staying in one place more than four to six weeks.

The diet of the little red flying fox is primarily herbivorous, folivorous or frugivorous. But its food compared to other species of flying fox mainly comprises the nectar and pollen of blossoms and flowers of eucalypt trees, rather than fruit or leaves.
