Do You Want To Know A Secret (Beatles, The, 1964). Live cover performance by Bill Sharkey, Home Studio, Hawaii Kai, HI. 2022-xx-xx. "Keeping the Oldies Alive"

Released in March of 1964, "Do You Want To Know A Secret," written by John Lennon and credited to both Lennon and McCartney (although Paul has stated that the song was written by both of them), was the Beatles' 6th top 10 single rising to the #2 position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was kept out of hitting the #1 position by another of their songs, "Can't Buy Me Love" (beatlesebooks.com, 2022; songfacts.com, 2022; Whitburn, 2013). The song was sung by George Harrison (thebeatles.com, 2022). John relayed the origin of the song; he said "[my mother] used to do this little tune when I was one or two years old... she was still living with me then. The tune was from a Disney movie: (sings) 'Do you want to know a secret? Promise not to tell? You are standing by a wishing well.' So, I had this sort of thing in my head, and I wrote it and just gave it to George to sing" (beatlesebooks.com, 2022). As a side note, during the year 1964, the Beatles had a total of 19 top 40 hits that landed on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (Whitburn, 2013).

Lyrics:

You'll never know how much I really love you
You'll never know how much I really care

Listen do you want to know a secret
Do you promise not to tell woh woh woh

Closer, let me whisper in your ear
Say the words you long to hear
I'm in love with you oooo

I've known the secret for a week or two
Nobody knows just we two

Listen do you want to know a secret
Do you promise not to tell woh woh woh

Closer, let me whisper in your ear
Say the words you long to hear
I'm in love with you oo
ooo
