23rd Annual Cabalgata Binacional Celebration

I had an opportunity to witness this today and will take part of the ongoing festivities later.

The history behind the Cabalagata (Cavalcade) began with the commemoration of the day Mexican revolutionary General Francisco “Pancho” Villa carried out an attack on the town. The pre-dawn raid occurred on March 9, 1916. Villa’s army – numbered in the hundreds - killed 18 American citizens, including 8 U.S. soldiers who were stationed nearby. It has been estimated that close to 100 of Villa’s revolutionaries were killed.

The Cabalgata Binacional represents the goodwill and strong relationships Mexico and the United States have built since the attack. The Fiesta de Amistad was added to the Cabalgata in celebration of the horse riders coming together in the village. (Bill Armendariz - Deming Headlight)
