When my doctor gave loaned me an Omron M2 blood pressure monitor so I could record my readings over an extended period I was impressed by the accuracy and ease of use and so bought the updated X2 model myself.
In the robust and attractive product box was the unit itself, medium-sized upper arm cuff, carry bag, two User Guides, and Batteries. The plastic built unit is quite lightweight but will not shift around on the desk when you move your arm. The LCD screen is very easy to read showing the diastolic, systolic, and pulse readings, confirms that the cuff is correctly positioned, with an alert for irregular heart rhythms.
The device is powered by four AA batteries but has a power in port so an external 6v/4w power adapter can be used. The cuff is well made and robust with a steel ring and velcro fastening and a generous length of tubing. Build quality seems first rate throughout. The supplied instructions are clear and easy to read with two separate User Guides included.
It is simple and easy to use. The cuff is lightweight and comfortable and the measuring time is faster than on some rivals I have tried. This display, which is not backlit, is otherwise clear and easy to read. This device does not support multiple users and only remembers the last reading taken.
Do not be tempted by the £50 X2 Smart which is basically the same device but with a thicker cuff (which does not seem to work any better or be any easier to use), an extended memory capacity, and offers a Bluetooth connection to the Omron Connect app. I found the app to be buggy and confusing to use and the Bluetooth syncing poor and unreliable. If you really want to, you can still use the app, which can be downloaded for free, by entering the data from your X2 manually.
This is an excellent device. Well made, robust and simple to use. If you need a more sophisticated unit with extended multi-user memory or additional features then these are available from Omron or rival suppliers at a greater cost. For most people, this entry-level unit will be all that you need. The current Amazon of £29.99 makes it an even more attractive buy.
