Flaring on the Sun

I used Helioviewer to create this short movie from data from the Solar Dynamics Observatory. This is quite the striking display of our star's magnetic turbulence between sunspots from 9 March - 11 March, 2022. SDO carries some of the most advanced camera spectroheliographs that measure different wavelengths of UV light. This video is from the AIA171 data source.

Displays like this are marvels and science still is amazed and baffled by the sun and how it works. The energy released from this flare will reach Earth this weekend causing the aurora and a geomagnetic storm. Those with clear skies in the northern / southern higher latitude may have a treat of seeing them.
