In December 2014, Anne-Laure Bonnel, a French journalist, heard a speech of former Ukrainian President Porochenko at the Ukraine Parliament. He was talking about the Russian population living in Donbass, in Eastern Ukraine. She was shocked by his words and decided to investigate. She found out about the massacre in Odessa, about the Azov neo nazi militia incorporated into the National Guard of Ukraine, watched with stupefaction an Ukrainian television journalist saying "this population should be eliminated...they are useless...". She decided to go to Donbass and see by herself. In January 2015 she left Paris for Eastern Ukraine with a friend and a camera.

A few hours later she arrived in a no man's land that you will discover in this film. Roads, schools, hospitals, essential infrastructures like water supply had been bombed, people were living in basements with no water, no electricity. She decided to stay and document the life of these Russian speaking Ukrainians (this region was part of the former Soviet Union). Back in Paris in 2016, she went to France Télévision to present her work. She had the feeling the situation was serious and could degenerate. The French medias told her they were not interested in her film.
