Most massagers use a vibrating oscillating action but this new model from Lefity uses a stroke percussive technique which is said to be better for the deep tissue massage often needed by athletes. For this reason, the £45.99 device is perhaps targeted at the sports market as much as the health.

In the attractive but simple box can be found the massage gun itself, six fearsome-looking heads, charging cable, and a well printed and informative User Guide. Sadly, no carry case is included. Build quality is first-rate and the massage gun looks well capable of standing up to hours of use in the gym and at home.

The massager features a 2600mAh battery which can be charged from any USB port. I was pleased to see an up to date USB-C charging port is used on the massager with no proprietory cable or mains adapter needed. Charging is easy enough with the LCD screen showing charging status.

The six heads, each with descriptive names – Ball, Crescent, Fork, Bullet, Flat, Cylindrical – just click and twist in place and are just as easy to remove. They are each designed to target specific areas: Ball Head mainly used for large muscle groups and suitable for arms, back, thighs, calves, Bullet Head for deep tissues, tendons, palms, Flat Head for muscle relaxation, Fork Head for neck, spine, shoulders, Cylindrical Head for thighs and lower legs, Crescent Head for any body area.

Using the massager is easy enough and pretty intuitive. After fully charging push and twist your selected massage head into place, and switch on by long pressing the soft-touch power button on the rear of the massager. The LCD screen will come on showing the selected massage intensity level (default is 0) and the other the current battery level (99 is full). On either side of the power button are soft-touch buttons for Massage Level Up and Massage Level Down. Select the massage level you need and off you go. The massage intensity can be changed during use. I have to say that this is the quietest massager of this type I have yet used at just 45dB at full power.

This device can be used both before and after workouts to tone and soothe strained muscles or to prepare for a strenuous exercise session. Take care only to use on soft tissue areas and not directly on to hard or bony areas or on the head. Commonsense must tell you to also to avoid bruised or painful areas. When in operation take care to keep your fingers away from the gap between the oscillating head and the body. This is not an error you will make more than once.

The effect of using the unit is immediate and dramatic and due to the power of the device, it should be used with care. It does a good job of imitating the pummelling massage technique often used in sports therapy and does seem to work for specific toning techniques. The unit will switch off automatically after 10 minutes of sustained use or if too much force is used when massaging to prevent tissue damage.

It is not an inexpensive device but it is better priced than many rivals, built to professional standards and should last for years. If you need a sports massager, I doubt you will find a better-specified or better made one for this price.
