So, is Muhammad's name even in the Qur'an? (#15)

What do you think? Is Muhammad's name NOT in the Qur'an?

How could Muhammad's name not be there?

He's the prophet of Islam, whose name is in the 'Shahada', the 'statement of faith' for all Muslim!

Yet, his name is found only 4 times in the Qur'an (see Surahs 3:144; 33:40; 47:2; and 48:29), and even the context of those 4 verses may not have to do with any man named Muhammad at all!

They could be referring to Jesus Christ!

The fact that we don't know when the Qur'an was written, or when these 4 verses were added to the Qur'an, doesn't help us come to any quick answers.

It could be that the man Muhammad was not introduced into the Qur'an until the mid 8th century, as the rock inscriptions suggest he was chosen as a prophet for the Umayyads around 730 AD, which would mean that he could have also been added to the Qur'an at about this time.

Yet, this is about a century after the Muhammad of the Traditions died!

We don't know enough yet.

Nonetheless, the fact that little is known about him even in the Qur'an suggests that 'the book and the man' have much yet to tell us.
