Good morning, I’m still reporting on the coup.

According to Reuters, Russia this morning announced terms for a cease-fire and ultimately probably a withdrawal from Ukraine if that nation changes its Constitution to prohibit it joining NATO, among other conditions.

In a telephone interview with Reuters, Dmitry Peskov, Vladimir Putin’s Press Secretary, listed Moscow’s demands for hostilities to cease:
Ukraine ceases military action
Ukraine agrees to change its constitution to always remain neutral, that is, not join NATO.
Ukraine acknowledge Crimea as Russian territory
Ukraine recognize the separatist republics of Dontsk and Lugansk in what is currently eastern Ukraine as independent states.
Press Secretary Peskov – whose daughter has been spotted among anti-Putin, anti-war protesters in Moscow – said that Ukraine is now aware of the conditions for peace:

“And they were told that all this can be stopped in a moment.”

The Russian invasion, was characterized by Peskov as a “demilitarization of Ukraine”.

“But the main thing is that Ukraine ceases its military action. They should stop … and then no one will shoot.”

Delegations from Russia and Ukraine are meeting today for a third round of talks aimed at ending the Russian invasion – the most serious war in Europe in nearly 75 years.

Although Putin has nearly 200,000 Russian troops in Ukraine, their leverage is rapidly declining as their domestic economy is imploding and hardened Ukrainian fighters have brought Russian advances to nearly a halt.

Strangely, instead of reopening U.S. oil production, the communist wing of the Democrat party has forced U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken to discuss a ban on Russian oil but replacing it with oil from one of Russia’s closest allies, Venezuela.

Major corporations are pulling out of Russia as a result of Putin’s war, including Volkswagen, Apple, Spotify, Exxon and Twitter, as well as many others, leaving market watchers to ask, who will be left to do any business in Russia? This wave of business departure announcements came over the weekend in an effort to force the Russians to stop shelling civilians. At this point, Putin has to back down and save face as much as he can.

So time is on the side of Zelenskyy and works against Putin. Ukraine is now being massively resupplied while Russian forces are stalled and even Russian Generals are starting to revolt, which may be why that much talked about 40-mile-long parade of Russian military vehicles has been halted for days just 20 miles north of Kiev.

According to Gen. Jack. Keane, retired, one of the most trusted TV commentators:

The bottom line is that this is over. This is a big defeat for Russia and China as well as their largest financial ally.

Russia needs to replace Putin with someone with a much broader, populist base, and push the dominant Russian oligarchs more into the background. That way, we may yet be able to pull Russia away from China and thereby create a more balanced, a more democratic and peaceful world going forwards.

I’m still reporting from the citadel of world freedom, good day.
