Join us, John Larter,a paramedic and SES Volunteer, Lisa am Enrolled Nurse, and Josh A firefighter, as they discuss how they and many other front line workers and volunteers are not allowed to help in the fight.
Why?
Where is the sense in that decision?

On Sunday night my partner and I spent 6 hours rescuing people in Windsor Qld because their 2nd stories were flooding - we were there till nearly 2am. They were told by SES/police that there was nothing they could do and they couldn’t get there for 72 hours - so they put a desperate plea for help on Facebook. So we (civilians with absolutely no experience in rescue) grabbed our tinny and headed down thinking it was one family. We evacuated 40-50 people (ranging from a 2 week old baby through to a 90 year old man, including 2 severely disabled children) who were told no one was coming for them. Not one person asked for our vaccination status before they got in our boat, not even the amazing police officer that showed up to respond to a DV call but ended up riding with us for the last 4 hours helping us get the people out.. he even turned his radio off because he kept getting called to leave to deal with “more important jobs”… but SES were only allowing vaccinated people to even fill Sand bags, let alone help with any rescues. This was a very eye opening experience and a shameful and disgraceful way to discriminate, risking people’s lives. How is turning away willing and able volunteers anything to do with health and safety?
