When did we lose our way? (Equality & Freedom)

When did we sink so low
When did we lose our way?
When the people of all nations unite
The politicians cause dismay

What’s happened to our society?
What’s become of our vision?
When smearing another human for disagreeing becomes our religion

Our founders were sinful
Our founders were flawed
But so are we… all of us!
And we’re weaker when unity is outlawed

When elected leaders make efforts to divide
We’re in trouble and we must change the tide

We all have our differences
We all have our views
But surely we can find common ground
And make that our glue?

Like any family a nation faces hardship & strife
It’s part of our individuality
It’s a reality of life

Citizens may squabble and wrestle
And occasionally drop gloves
But our ultimate desire is to be loved

We all yearn for acceptance
We have our own beliefs and creeds
But what unites us is greater
Because we all remain free
