Douglas Kasten was born and raised in Southern Illinois on his family’s farm, the oldest of three siblings. After college, he received an M.Div. from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, and served as an assistant pastor in rural Nebraska for two years. He then received an M.A. in Linguistics from the University of Texas – Arlington in preparation for Bible Translation. He absconded to France and then West Africa with his new wife for translation work, which lasted until 2002.

Beginning in 2003, he worked as a police officer, retiring in 2020. For ten years he was as a Detective focused on investigating crimes against children. He continues work in law enforcement as a criminal investigator with a District Attorney’s office.

Doug has been married to his wife, K.O., for 28 years. They have five children, aged 15 – 26. Doug and K.O. currently attend St. Catherine Orthodox Church in Greenwood Village, CO.
