It is said that Khrushchev wanted a guarantee from America that Cuba would, not be invaded, and so a long dangerous and ponderous plan involved missiles on Cuba. Some brinksmanship would occur, some posturing and then both sides could go away happy.

Russia Invades the Ukraine.

Not much of an Invasion. More like a punitive strike, which will end with Russian Withdrawal.

This is significant, as showing that you can humiliate the ally of a superpower indicates the level of commitment of the superpower.

There are bigger plans, and bigger wheels, and the possibility of Collusion between China and Russia should not be ignored.

Putin knew he would face blowback, so testing the waters for China would likely have large, obvious influence on Russia China relations, which should reveal themselves in the coming months.

Taiwan is a Strategic area. China has subsumed Hong Kong without a murmur from the West. Taiwan will be a different kind of problem. As would Iran.
