The Honeywell 5800SS1 is the wireless shock sensor that works with Honeywell's wireless security systems. The L5200 and L7000, as well as any of Honeywell's wired panels if they have been outfitted with a receiver or a 6160RF keypad. The shock sensor detects shaking glass, which means it can act as a glass break, albeit an expensive one, since every window would have to be outfitted with the unit. Additionally, since it is not triggered by the sound of glass breaking, but, rather, vibrations, the 5800SS1, or any shock sensor for that matter, are prone to false alarms. The rumbling of a semi-truck can set them off, as can a tennis ball that he kids have thrown against a window. They should be used in specific applications where a glass break detector is, for some reason, insufficient. Also, while these are operating on vibration, they are not good to be used as asset protection devices. Something like the 5800API would be a better unit for something like that. In this video Sterling runs through how to program a 5800SS1 to Honeywell's wireless L5200 security system.
