The Great American Solar Eclipse of 2017

Today we are gonna talk about getting photos and videos of the upcoming American Solar Eclipse of August 21st 2017; plus we are giving away more filmmaking gear!

So far I have been testing out different gear for the solar eclipse. For sure you will need a zoom lens. This also means that a camera with a smaller sensor will be better.

This will be a great combo because on the m43 image sensor and the digital zoom enabled you will effectively have a 300mm full frame equivalent. In case you are looking for something that will work on a full frame camera or an APS-C size sensor, then I would recommend these two lenses:

Regardless of what camera and lens combo you are using you will also need a solar eclipse filter in front of your lens to stop down on the intensity of the light plus to make sure you are completely cutting out the light rays outside of the visible light spectrum. Also, you want to make sure to protect your eyes while looking at the sun even while it's completely covered during the eclipse as it may cause blindness. To protect your eyes I would recommend these cheap paper glasses from American Paper Optics, that you can get on Amazon: http://amzn.to/2vUrQ64
