Barren to Fertile Soil: Using Cover Crops and Sheet Mulch

Here's how I brought very cheap but insanely effective fertility to my soil. Sheet mulches and cover crops are an incredible way to use nature to smother weeds, loosen soil, add tons of nutrients, remove contaminants, attract beneficial insects and other life, as well as condition the soil and microbiome. Without this cover crop I probably would have spent at least another $1,000 on initial soil to get my market garden going. It took about 6 months for the total process. But if you have the time this is far better for your soil in the long run than just bringing in a bunch of already made compost/nutrients.
