The idea of flying cars has been around for awhile now but only recently has it start to become a reality. On this episode, we take a look at 4 real flying cars that actually fly.

4. The Terrafugia Transition
The Transition was built by Terrafugia, an American company founded by 5 MIT graduates.
The Transition is a 2 seat car / plane, that’s built with carbon fibre construction.
It’s foldable wings all it to fit on the road or any parking space.
The car can then unfold its wings, take flight and has a range of 400 miles or 650 km with a 30 mile or 50 km reserve.
The Transition runs on premium unleaded gasoline. The first commercial delivery estimated for 2019. Now they are also now working on a new aircraft called TF-X, a vertical takeoff and landing vehicle but this one is still in the prototype phase.

3. The Maverick LSA
Florida based company Beyond Roads has developed The Maverick LSA flying off road car.
At a cost of $94,000 this is definitely the cheapest one on this list.
Unlike the other flying cars this one uses a giant paragliding type wing to keep it in the sky with a large propellor to propel it through the air.
Now this one doesn’t transform nearly as fast as the others, this one takes 15-20 minutes to switch from driving to flying mode, this is due to the fact you have to setup the parasail wing.
Controlling the maverick LSA is very easy, the steering wheel is used to control the car on the ground and in the air.
The Maverick LSA has a top range of 400 mile / 650 km and a top ground speed of 100 mp/h with a top airspeed of 40 mp/h airspeed and in metric that’s 160 kph on the ground and 65 kph in the air.
Now there is a top weight limit of 450 lbs, so if you’re thinking of flying this vehicle maybe pass on the donuts.
There is also a larger Maverick can carry 3 people on the ground as well as in the air
Apparently there is no pilot license needed to fly this thing but probably not the best idea.

2. PAL-V
Developed by a Dutch company the PAL-V stands for Personal air and land vehicle.
It drives like a sports car on the ground but flying like a plane in the air.
It only takes minutes for the rotors to unfold and the tail to extend then it’s time for liftoff.
This flying car has been designed and built within international rules, which is an impressive feat as it doesn’t require any special regulations to be able to be flown or driven.
The PAL-V 3 wheeled car, with a top speed of 112 mp/h or 180 km/h.
PAL-V has built in safety design that allows the rotors to keep spinning even if the engine fails, allowing one to land safely, that’s a good feature...

1. Aeromobil
Developed and built by AeroMobil s.r.o in Slovakia the Aeromobil may just be the first flying car to market.
Now in their 3rd iteration, Aeromobil is a flying car with retractable wings, it’s propellor powered, and can travel 450 miles / 700 km on a full tank of gas.
Now speaking of gas, the AeroMobil runs on normal gasoline, you don’t need special jet fuel to fly this car.
Aeromobil is now on their 4th generation of design, seen here. Packed away in this final version for commercial release is a stylish design, a unique glass cockpit system, pyrotechnic seatbelt technology, airbags and an airframe parachute system. Optional autonomous flight is also an optional upgrade.
Pricing has been announced at 1.3 - 1.6 million dollars and will require a pilot's license to fly in the air, so basically this is a rich person’s toy.

Do you think traditional style aircraft like the Aeromobil will become the market standard or will vertical take off and landing vehicles find themselves as the popular choice, let us know in the comments down below.
