Invented by John Murdoch the idea for the endless pool came from his recollections of swimming in irrigation cancels while growing up in Arizona. He built the first prototype at Columbia University in 1988, fast forward 30 years later, today there are been more than 20,000 endless pools installed. John is also the inventor of the “CarTurn” those giant rotating platforms you see in fancy car showrooms, it was originally developed to for people who had driveways that were unsafe to back out of.

John developed the endless pool as an exercise machine but was quickly adopted as a medical rehabilitation device. Other obscure uses for the endless pool came forward quickly such as a pool for cruise ships and one for polar bears at the Central Park Zoo. John’s son James took this unique invention and turned it into the independent business it is today. If you already have a pool they have developed a device you can add to your existing pool that adds a single lane of current.

The endless pool comes in sizes from 7 x 12 feet to 10 x 16 feet or
2.1 by 3.6 meters to 3 by 4.9 meters. 5 current options available as you become a stronger swimmer and need more resistance. This is achieved by a 5hp single propeller system which is also available as a dual propeller system for 2 swimmers.

Optional features include remote control operation, 4 kw electric heater, high efficiency circulation pump, skimmer filter, cover and treadmill

The price ranges around 20k to around 33k now if you like the idea of the endless pool but already have one and want a cheap alternative there is the swim tether which is basically a belt with an elastic rope attached to it that keeps pulling you backwards. Not a bad alternative, I’ll leave a link in the description if you’re interested in it.
