The Value of a LYNX Touch System Without Monitoring

In this video, Joe talks about the purpose of having a LYNX Touch System in your home without receiving active monitoring service. By forgoing monitoring service, the LYNX System will only serve as a local sounder, and it will not be able to alert the user or a central station during an alarm event.

There are many panels in the LYNX lineup. One is the wireless Honeywell L3000 System. This is a relatively outdated panel that should be upgraded if possible. However, the other panels in the LYNX series are more capable systems overall. Some common LYNX Touch Panels include the Honeywell L5210 and the Honeywell L7000. These panels are both very easy to use, and they provide all of the functionality that one would need out of a modern security system. Users can also upgrade to the Honeywell Lyric Controller, which is widely seen as the successor to the LYNX Touch lineup.

Without monitoring service, these panels can only function as local alarms. A local alarm means that the system will still activate and produce a siren during an alarm event. This could be due to a burglary, a fire or an outbreak of deadly carbon monoxide gas. This can be useful for detached garages and for users who don't necessarily need remote monitoring services. A benefit of using the LYNX Panels is that an application called LYNX Connect can allow users to access these panels over local WIFI, even without monitoring.

If a user does decide to get monitoring later, these panel can be easily upgraded to support such services later on. All of the LYNX Touch Panels are compatible with Total Connect 2.0, and they can use both cellular and WIFI communication with the proper upgrades. This gives the user more options even if they don't decide to begin monitoring service right away.
