Honeywell Lyric Alarm System: Adding Hardwire Zones

In this video, Jorge shows users how to use hardwired sensors with the Lyric Controller. The system has two inputs on the back for hardwired sensors. These inputs are located by the power inputs for the panel. Only normally closed hardwired contacts should be connected with the Lyric in this manner.

These hardwired contacts can be programmed with the Lyric Controller by using the system's Installer Code to access zone programming. Zones 1 and 2 are reserved for the two hardwired inputs. This is observed by the fact that there is no Serial Number field for putting the system in its auto enrollment mode for wireless devices. Once the devices have been connected, their settings can be configured. Since there are only options for "Door" and "Window" under Device Type, only hardwired contacts should be set up in this way. The process for adjusting the rest of the settings is largely the same as setting up a wireless sensor.

However, if a user wants to use more than two hardwired sensors, or if they want to use hardwired sensors that aren't door and window contacts, they will need to use a wired to wireless converter. We recommend using the Honeywell 5800C2W for this application. The Honeywell 5800C2W will send wireless signals to the Lyric Controller at a frequency of 345 MHz. These signals will communicate with the system on the behalf of the hardwired sensor.

To use the Honeywell 5800C2W, simply plug-in the device to the wall and wire-in a hardwired sensor to the converter. Then put the Lyric into its wireless enrollment mode. Upon activating the sensor, the Lyric Controller will recognize the signal sent from the 5800C2W and learn-in the sensor. Each input on the 5800C2W has its own serial number so that every hardwired device connected with the 5800C2W is differentiated.

Using the Honeywell 5800C2W is a great way to upgrade to a newer wireless system like the Lyric Controller without having to replace older hardwired sensors. But remember, hardwired life-safety devices, such as smokes and carbon monoxide sensors, cannot be used with the Honeywell 5800C2W.
