The Lyric Alarm System and VISTA Compatibility

In this video, Jorge talks about how a Honeywell Lyric Controller and a Honeywell VISTA System are not compatible with one another. The Lyric and a VISTA are both independent alarm systems. As a general rule for alarm systems, one does not mix multiple systems with one another. They are independent.

Both the Honeywell Lyric Controller and any one of the Honeywell VISTA Panels are independent control panels. They are both designed to serve as the central hub, or the "brains", of a complete security setup. Security sensors will send communication signals to one of these panels to let the system know when they have been faulted. The panel will then respond based on the programming settings for that zone.

As panels, the Lyric Controller and the VISTA Systems are very different, but they do share some similarities. The most notable difference is that the Lyric is a wireless system, while a VISTA Panel is hardwired. But both are manufactured by Honeywell, and both can access the Total Connect 2.0 interactive service platform. However, Total Connect 2.0 will not work with certain older VISTA Panels, and an IP or cellular communicator will need to be added to any VISTA Panel before it can successfully access the service.

Since VISTA Systems are hardwired, a user will need an external keypad to operate the system. This is not the case for the Lyric, which has its own touchscreen controller. Some users wonder if a Lyric System can be used as the keypad controller for a Honeywell VISTA Panel. The answer to that is "no". A Lyric System and a Honeywell VISTA cannot be used with each other in any sort of way.

But if a user does want a touchscreen controller for their Honeywell VISTA, they do have some available options. These options include the Honeywell Tuxedo Touch Keypad and the Honeywell 6280 Touchscreen Keypad.
