Using the Tuxedo Touch as a Keypad for Lyric Alarm System

The Tuxedo Touch is a touchscreen keypad that is designed for use with Honeywell VISTA Security Systems. The device also adds Z-Wave capabilities to a VISTA Security System.

A Tuxedo Touch Keypad will not work with the Honeywell Lyric Controller. If a user needs an external keypad for their Honeywell Lyric Controller, they should use a Honeywell LKP500 Keypad instead. This device will allow users to arm and disarm their Lyric System and check the status of the system from a second location. But remember, this type of function can also be performed from Total Connect 2.0 through any web browser or from the TC2 Mobile App.

However, if a user has a hardwired Honeywell VISTA System, they can use a Tuxedo Touch as a secondary keypad. There are a few main benefits to doing this. Many users like the fact that the the Tuxedo Touch offers touchscreen controls, and they find that its colorful menus are easy to navigate. With that in mind, a Tuxedo Touch can be more inviting than a standard push-button keypad.

But the real perk of adding a Tuxedo Touch is that it will provide Z-Wave functionality for the system. Z-Wave smart home devices can be set to activate automatically based on a set schedule or with predetermined system events. This is done by setting up rules and scenes for Z-wave devices. Not only does Z-Wave functionality make a user's life more convenient, it can also help them save money on their energy bills. Z-Wave devices can be controlled both from the Tuxedo Touch or from Total Connect 2.0.

But there is one very important thing to remember with the Tuxedo Touch. The keypad should not be used as a primary controller for a VISTA System. Even though it is possible to access installer programming on a Tuxedo Touch, there is no way to backdoor into programming if a user gets locked out. For that reason, a user should have an alphanumeric keypad, like the Honeywell 6160RF, available as a primary controller.
