History is full of events that you won’t believe. On this episode we’ll take a look at 10 shocking moments that’ll leave you speechless.

10. Yankees Stadium Boxing Match
In 1923 this shot of a boxing match being held at Yankee Stadium shows a packed house of 58,000 people. It’s quite likely that the people furthest from the ring couldn’t see all that much of what was going on. 30 title fights were held at Yankee Stadium, ranging from the opening of the Stadium in 1923 with the last night being between Muhammad Ali and Ken Norton in 1976.

9. Berlin Wall Savior
This photo here shows an east Berlin soldier about to lift a boy over the barbed wire into east Berlin. It is said that the father along with the boy were visiting family in west Berlin, the next day they woke up on 13th of August 1961 the east Berlin military had constructed a wall allowing no one to pass. The father believed the boy should grow up with his mother so he walked him over to the wall then guided him to walk up to the fence and beg to be lifted over.

8. Smuggling Alcohol
In 1926 Los Angeles federal agents busted this smuggling attempt thanks to the smell of alcohol coming from a broken bottle inside this truck. Phony lumber trucks like this were one of the few ways people could get their hands on alcohol during the prohibition in the united States between 1920 and 1933.

7. Atlantic Slave Trade
Here we have a photo taken aboard the HMS Daphne on November 1st 1868. These hundreds of children were rescued from the Atlantic Slave trade, a dark time in history when Africans were forced onto ships many of which ended up in the Americas as slave labour workers.

6. Elephant’s Foot
Nuclear power plant Chernobyl melted down in 1986 leaving this, what is called the elephant’s foot. This pile of radioactive waste weighs hundreds of tons and is currently encased in a concrete sarcophagus. This tomb was constructed around the waste to protect the rest of the world from this radioactive material that will continue to be deadly to human and animal life for the next 100,000 years. All firefighters and workers who built and installed the sarcophagus died around a year after it’s completion. The elephant foot was so radioactive that just 5 minutes exposure would put one in the grave 2 days later.

5. Cincinnati Library
This magnificent library in Cincinnati was built in 1874 at 629 Vine St. downtown Cincinnati. Constructed with brick, glass and cast iron this one of a kind library was constructed at a cost of 7 million dollars in today’s value. This site was originally held for an opera house but after that project went bankrupt the library was built.

4. Falling from Space
As the 50th anniversary of the Soviet Union was quickly approaching, leader Leonid Brezhnev, demanded a big display from the space program. Vladimir Komarov a Soviet cosmonaut was selected to fly the Soyuz 1 rocket than switch places with the pilot of the Soyuz 2 rocket that would come up the following day. The cosmonauts would dock their ships and trade places and bring each other’s spacecraft home.

3. Leap of Freedom
In 1961 Conrad Schumann was captured taking this leap over the barbed wire between east and west berlin. 19 year old Peter Leibing patiently waited for an hour with his camera ready as he could tell the soldier was going to jump. West Berliners cheered him on to jump over, upon landing on the other side conrad ran right into a west berlin police vehicle that took him to the police station for interrogation.

2. British Military Industry
During the first world war the majority of men went off to fight leaving the women to take their roles in the production of weapons like the ones you see here. This image was captured in 1917 that shows a health mix of men and women working in the production of artillery shells at the National Filling Factory in Chilwell.

1.Baby Gas Mask
During the second world war gas masks were made for babies. Appearing more like an underwater diving mask, it was placed over the baby with only their legs sticking out. They’d breathe through the rubber hose and have the little window to see out of.
