Police Car Grappler

A high speed pursuit is a dangerous situation we see all too often. Hours upon hours would the chase go on but this is all about to change. On this episode we unveil the grappler.

Leonard Stock, a professional roofer from Arizona decided there needed to be a better way. He was watching a police chase video feeling aggravated there was no simple way to catch the criminal. Waking up at 3am with the solution Leonard started drawing out his design and writing down notes.

Leonard welded a prototype that could be attached to a police car’s bumper to test out if he could stop a car. After improving on his initial design, we have his final product, the grappler a webbing and tether made from extra strong nylon webbing. Boasting nearly 20,000 lbs or 9000 kg of strength this tether has no problem pulling a vehicle to a halt. This net is a one time use only as there is so much force involved sometimes it’ll pop the tire right off of the rim.

Before Leonard invention, police had to use the “pit maneuver” a skilled moved done with the police car that causes the escaping vehicle to spin. A risky move to try to perform, especially in traffic there isn’t always an opportunity to use it. With vehicles towing something like a trailer this technique simply won’t work. The snag maneuver performed by Leonard’s grappler invention only requires the officer to drive up behind the rear wheel of the vehicle. The net will automatically catch resulting with a successful tether snag on the back tire allowing the officer to slow down which will stop the vehicle in pursuit.

A vehicle can also be snagged and not tethered as well which will limited the speed of the vehicle and might be useful if the crook wants to drive off a cliff.

The grappler is able to be disguised like within this bike rack so criminals won’t have a chance to escape.
