Can Wifi be Primary and Cellular the Secondary Comm Path on a Lyric?
In this video, Dylan talks about the communication path options that are available for a Honeywell Lyric Controller. The system can connect to a WIFI network right out of the box, and it can use cellular communication with a cellular module add-on. Adding a cellular communicator is very recommended.
Once a cellular communicator has been added to a Lyric System, it will typically use WIFI as the primary communication path and cellular as the backup. This is generally regarded as the ultimate communication setup available for an alarm system. There are certain benefits that cellular offers over WIFI, which makes adding a cellular communicator a worthwhile investment for Lyric owners.
Cellular communication is generally more reliable than WIFI connectivity. WIFI service sometimes goes down or becomes unavailable, often for seemingly no reason. If a user is relying on WIFI alone, their system will be unmonitored when this happens. But if the system has cellular backup, then it will continue to remain connected to the network. Cellular connectivity will also keep the system monitored when the power goes out.
By using a dual-path setup. A user will achieve the best of both worlds. Their system will receive the fast speeds of WIFI connectivity, along with the reliability of cellular communication. If the WIFI ever goes down, the system will automatically switch to its cellular radio so that it can continue to send outbound communication signals. Remember though, a cellular monitoring plan is needed to use cellular communication.
Both cellular and WIFI connectivity will allow the system to be used with the Total Connect 2.0 interactive service platform. This is a useful service that a user can access to control their system remotely. With Total Connect 2.0, a user can arm and disarm their system, control Z-Wave smart home devices and check the current status of security sensors from virtually anywhere.
