Using Wired Contacts w/ a Lyric Alarm System

In this video, Dylan talks about using hardwired door and window contacts with a Honeywell Lyric Controller Alarm Panel. The panel has two hardwired inputs for normally closed hardwired devices. These inputs use zones 1 and 2 on the Lyric Controller. Only hardwired contacts can use the system zones.

In most cases, a user will simply use wireless sensors with a Honeywell Lyric Controller. The system will support 345 MHz wireless contacts from the Honeywell 5800 Series, as well as the encrypted SiX Series Contacts. These include the Honeywell SiXCT and the Honeywell SiXMINICT. But if a user wants to bring a couple of hardwired sensors over and use them with the Lyric, they can connect them with the terminals found on the back of the system. After the sensors have been set up and connected, a user can access programming to configure these zones. The sensors will work once the zones have been properly configured.

But if a user wants to use more than two hardwired contacts with their Lyric Controller, then they will need a wired to wireless converter. The contacts will connect directly with the converter, and the converter will send a wireless signal to the panel on their behalf. Each wired contact will use its own wireless zone on the system. For all intents and purposes, the system will recognize the wired contact as a wireless sensor. An excellent wired to wireless converter to use for this application is the Honeywell 5800C2W. Up to nine wired contacts can be used with a Honeywell 5800C2W Converter.

Remember, only normally closed devices can be used in this way. Normally open devices cannot be used with the inputs on the Lyric Controller or with a wired to wireless converter. This includes any hardwired smoke detectors or carbon monoxide detectors.
