Hand Pickaxe Weeder: https://amzn.to/2Q2zZz9

On the previous episode I planted a pink blueberry bush on this episode it’s time to tackle the ever growing weeds in my garden.

First step before I deal with the weeds is to do the edging. When I rototiller my yard I raked all the sod chunks to this side of the yard. At this point they started to root down and grow again. I first clear out some of the larger chunks that are poking out into the garden.

Next up is edging, I actually don’t mind this part of the process, it’s quick to see progress you don’t have to be all hunched down over the ground like with weeding. Edging isn’t necessary but it makes the garden look a lot better and prevents the grass from growing into the garden from the outside. As the light was dying I packed it up for the next but the next day was the day to conquer the weeds. I started on the far side near the strawberries, not sure why. When I weed I tend to bounce around all over the yard as I get bored in the same area. This big patch here was a lot of work and took a fews hours itself. I’ve tried a lot of different weeding tools and the best I’ve used thus far is my small pickaxe, it has the weight to dig down to the root with a single swing, is strong doesn’t bend, the handle is big, just gets the job done much faster than the little hand shovel. I recommend one that has a split in the back part of the blade which is the part that will catch the weeds. If you want to pick one up I’ve linked it in the description.

There is another weeding tool called a water jet weeder which has sort of like a pressure washer effect that blasts down to the bottom of the roots so the weeds are easy to pull out, hopefully for next year I can try that out.
