Changing the Battery in the Qolsys IQ Panel 2

In this video, Jarrett shows users how they can change the backup battery in a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Security System. The backup battery is an important accessory that provides emergency power for the panel in the event of an electrical outage. This way, the system can stay running for alarm monitoring.

Most alarm systems have two possible sources of power. The main source is a plug-in transformer that connects to a wall outlet. This keeps in the system running reliably in most situations. But if a power outage occurs, or if the transformer becomes unplugged, then this otherwise reliable power source will become lost. The system will immediately require another power source to remain running. That is where the system's backup battery comes into play.

Once the system loses transformer power, it will automatically switch over to its backup power source if it is available. The user will not have to take any immediate action, but they should work to restore transformer power as soon as possible. This is because a user can realistically only expect the backup battery to provide power for up to 24 hours at a time. If the system loses this power source as well, it will shut down entirely.

Normally, when the system is running on AC power, the battery will be storing a charge for later use. This way, it will be ready for any power outage that may occur. But after a few years, it will get to a point where the battery is no longer able to maintain a charge. When this happens, the backup battery will need to be replaced with a new one. The user must open up the panel, take out the old backup battery and insert a new one. The name of the backup battery to purchase is called the Qolsys IQ2 Battery.
