Replacing a Honeywell 1321 Transformer with a 1361 Transformer

In this video, Joe from Alarm Grid discusses how you can replace a Honeywell 1321 Transformer with a Honeywell 1361 Transformer. This will work because the transformers have the same voltage output rating, while the 1361 supports more currently. The 1361 is a more powerful transformer than the 1321.

Any time you have a 1321 Transformer, you can successfully swap it out for a 1361 Transformer. In fact this may be a necessary action if your system needs extra power. Both the 1321 and the 1361 have a voltage output rating of 16.5VAC. But the 1321 only supports 25VA, while the 1361 supports 40VA. As long as the power load for your system does not exceed 25VA, then you can use these transformers interchangeably. But if the load exceeds 25VA, while still being less than 40VA, then you will need to use a 1361 instead of a 1321. In other words, while you can always swap in a 1361 for a 1321, you cannot always use a 1321 in place of a 1361. You can only do this if the load is 25VA or less.

The 1321 Transformer comes standard with the low VISTA P-Series Panels, including the VISTA 10P, VISTA 15P, and VISTA 20P. Unfortunately, that transformer is not powerful enough to keep both a panel and a communicator running. If you plan on getting your VISTA System set up with a cellular communicator, then you will have one of two options. The first is to get two transformers. One will power the system, and then other will power the communicator. However, an easier option might just be to get a 1361 Transformer. The 1361 Transformer is strong enough to power both a panel and communicator. Additionally, the VISTA 21iP, which includes an integrated IP communicator, comes with a 1361 Transformer. You also get a 1361 Transformer by default with the VISTA TURBO Panels, including the VISTA 128BPT and the VISTA 250BPT.
