Italy: Spectacular eruption from Mount Etna sends lava fountain and massive ash column into sky

Mount Etna, one of the world's most active volcanos, has awakened again, sending up towering clouds of ash and smoke over Catania, Sicily, on Monday.

The eruption from Europe's tallest volcano has produced a spectacular scene for those nearby and is so powerful it can be seen from space.

The eruption prompted the island's second-largest international airport, Vincenzo Bellini, to temporarily close, forcing flights to land in Palermo instead.
