Alone At The Cabin. Making Kindling. Building A Fire.

It gets cold this time of year, so it's time to fire up the wood stove.
I have been taking the pine shelving apart, (pantry shelving),
and the 2x4's are good for kindling.
The wood is very dry and lights easily.
When making a fire, you have to leave a window open in the Cabin,
so the stove can draft, otherwise, you have a Cabin full of smoke.
I always leave the window over my bed, open a few inches anyway,
in case of a Carbon Monoxide leak.
If you want to heat the second floor, and the loft,
you should open up an upstairs window.
This allows the heat to rise to the second floor,
replacing the cold air escaping from the open window.
Once lit, stoke the fire with a few logs,
(hardwood burns longer than softwood),
close and lock the wood stove door,
and set the air vent at the bottom of the stove.

Settle down in a nice comfy sleeping bag,
(I have a "Mummy Bag"), and enjoy a good book!
