Editing is Where The Magic Happens

Hey everybody, Jonathan here from United Content Creators, and in this video I'll be talking a little bit about editing and how often times content creators rush too quickly through the editing process.

Let me first start off by saying, this is a HUGE mistake! I truly believe that editing is where the magic happens. Whether you're editing a video or audio for a podcast, the edit is where you can really unleash the full powers of your creativity and ingenuity!

I've taken average, everyday sound bytes and turned them into radio-ready broadcasts by adding simple tweaks such as background music and special effects. Something as simple as a 30 second AD might have taken me 30 minutes to an hour just in post production, from equalizing the audio, to adding reverb, to boosting the audio.. but you can add even more time to this process when you consider the time it takes to choose the right background music, and the time it takes to choose the right sound effects.

You can literally create an entire world of your own within the editing process, so long as you take the time to do so. As tempting as it is, to record, make a few cuts, and press publish, I urge you to sit back for a minute and think about ways to improve your production. The great Orson Welles stated, "...the whole eloquence of cinema is achieved in the editing room."

The MAGIC happens in the edit! Most of the content audiences are wowed about in movies is all post-production! I guarantee you if you saw the filming of a movie, you'd probably be bored to tears. For example, most of The Matrix was filmed using a green screen! How boring?! Yet on screen, it was filled with excitement thanks to the editors hard at work behind the scenes.

If given the choice between quality and quantity, always choose quality. Whether you're producing a vlog, talk show, or podcast, take the extra time during post-production to spruce things up with graphics, visual effects, and additional audio. It might seem tedious, and believe me, at times it is.. but the end results will wow you just as much as your audience.

Let's bring back the art to content creation, before corporate took over. Video and audio is an artform all of its own. We have the ability to create worlds and share them both visually and audibly.
