1 Corinthians 15:12-21

Hebrews 6:1-2 (KJV)

Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, 2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

The Resurrection is a fundamental doctrine of the Christian faith. Without it, there would be no salvation and no Christian Church. It is listed in verse 2 of Hebrews 6.

I Thessalonians 4:13-18 (KJV)

But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. 14For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. 15For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. 16For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18Wherefore comfort one another with these words. -- This passage speaks of the ‘rapture of the church’ and the ‘resurrection of the righteous dead.’

‘Rapture’ is not found in the Bible (like ‘incarnation’ and ‘Trinity’) but describes a Biblical principle. In the rapture there is a resurrection of the righteous dead and translation of believers still alive.

There is a distinction between the ‘Rapture’ and the ‘Second Coming of Christ.’

The Bible speaks of two resurrections. The first is the resurrection of the righteous. The second resurrection is of the unbeliever. Our goal is to be part of the first resurrection (Revelation 20:6).

The First Resurrection occurs in three stages:
Stage One: Christ’s resurrection (Luke 24:5-6; Matthew 28:1; Mark 16:1-2; John 20:1-2);
Stage Two: Resurrection at the time of the rapture (I Thessalonians 4:16);
Stage Three: Resurrection of tribulation martyrs (Revelation 20:4).
The Second Resurrection occurs after the 1000 Year Reign of Christ (Millennium -- Revelation 20:11-15).
