00:00 to kick off actually
00:02 and get a bit of a scene center from mr
00:05 gates because this is i know a topic
00:07 that you've spoken on again and again
00:09 you were ahead of the curve
00:11 prior to the beginning of this pandemic
00:13 where would you assess where we are
00:15 today in beating covet 19
00:20 well the
00:22 you know sadly
00:23 the virus itself particularly the
00:27 the variant called omicron
00:30 is a type of vaccine that is it creates
00:32 both b-cell and t-cell immunity and it's
00:35 done a better job of getting out to the
00:37 world population
00:39 than we have
00:40 with vaccines if you do
00:42 sorrow surveys in african countries you
00:45 get well over 80 percent of people uh
00:48 have been exposed either to the vaccine
00:50 or
00:51 uh to various variants and so
00:55 you know what that does is it means the
00:57 chance of severe disease which is mainly
01:00 associated with
01:01 being elderly and
01:03 having obesity or diabetes those risks
01:06 are now dramatically reduced because of
01:09 that
01:10 infection exposure
01:12 and
01:13 you know it's sad we didn't do a great
01:16 job on therapeutics you know only here
01:18 two years in do we have a good
01:20 therapeutic
01:22 vaccines it took us two years to be in
01:24 oversupply today
01:26 there are more vaccines than there was
01:28 demand for vaccines
01:30 and you know that wasn't true and
01:33 next time we should try and make it
01:35 instead of two years we should make it
01:36 more like six months
01:38 which certainly uh
01:40 you know some of the standardized
01:42 platform approaches including mrna
01:44 would allow us to do that so
01:47 you know it took us a lot longer this
01:49 |time then than it should have
