Berlin Part 5, 1946, How the Soviets Rigged a Political Merger to Help the Communists Take Over

This 8-part series is a book study of Giles Milton's excellent work, "Checkmate in Berlin," interspersed with Scott Dreyer's commentary and explanation. Part 5 explains how the Communists wanted to maintain a "veneer of democracy" as they took over post-war Germany. So, they rigged the union of the Social Democrat Party with the Communist Party to form the new "Socialist Unity Party of Germany."
