Capitalism Ruined Yoga
Fun critique of capitalism's influence on yoga I recorded a few years ago and never released. Watch out for part two and three dropping soon! Peace!
Utilizing the philosophies of Hegel, Baudrillard, Mulvey, and Lacan, this episode focuses on the creation of needs by corporations/influencers in yoga. These needs drive symbolic exchange and corrupt our relationship between image and self-image. In this separation and alienation from reality, dialects form which lead to the desire to purchase and buy from corporations and influencers. Time stamps and quotes below! The true definition of yoga is the creation and flow of energy. Peace!

Baudrillard quote
“The media represents a world that is more real than the reality that we can experience. People lose the ability to distinguish between reality and fantasy. They also begin to engage with the fantasy without realizing what it really is. They seek happiness and fulfillment through the simulacra of reality, e.g. media and avoid contact/interaction with the real world’ – Jean Baudrillard

Mulvey quote
“There are three different looks associated with cinema: that of the camera as it records the pro-filmic event, that of the audience as it watches the final product, and that of the characters at each other within the screen illusion. The conventions of narrative film deny the first two and subordinate them to the third, the conscious aim being always to eliminate intrusive camera presence and prevent distancing awareness in the audience. Without these two absences, (the material existence of the recording process, the critical reading of the spectator,) fictional drama cannot achieve reality, obviousness and truth.” (Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema – Laura Mulvey –

Baudrillard quote… again haha
“The futility of everything that comes to us from the media is the inescapable consequence of the absolute inability of that particular stage to remain silent. Music, commercial breaks, new flashes, adverts, new broadcasts, movies, presenters – there is no alternative but to fill the screen; otherwise there would be an irremediable void… That’s why the slightest technical hitch, the slightest slip on the part of the presenter becomes so exciting, for it reveals the depth of the emptiness squinting out at us through this little window.” - Jean Baudrillard
