You don’t have to take my word for it; the world can be a brutal place, and it doesn’t stop with visual artists.

Thanks to the “pandemic” a barrage of vanity galleries have emerged to prey on the wishes and hearts of artists that just wants their hard work on display. Vanity galleries take advantage of these wishes. These galleries typically get away with this because artists of ALL experience levels fall victim to their tactics.

As a child of God I feel it’s my duty to look out for the little guy. The more heartaches I can prevent, the better.

To summarize: if you suspect you have been targeted by a vanity gallery, search online for the gallery. Talk with fellow artists if they did business with that gallery and did they have a positive or negative experience? Finally, evaluate the “up front” money. Entry fees for exhibits are typical. Five thousand dollars??? That reeks of scam.

Again, I stress: you don’t have to take my word for it. Search online using keywords “vanity galleries “ and skip pages 1-6. There are plenty of articles with helpful tips how to sniff out vanity galleries and save lots of unnecessary heartbreak.
