Friends Don’t Let Friends Date Duds

Question:

How can I be a good friend while my friends are in—what I perceive to be, anyway—crappy relationships?

One friend has broken up and gotten back together with her partner four times now and they are always fighting and my friend always complains to me about it. The partner always shows up to our friend group plans without telling her they are coming and then will just walk away from the group, so my friend follows. 😑

Another friend complains to me all the time about how she pays for everything— ever since the beginning of her relationship with a man who is 10 years older! He doesn’t pay child support and is willing to give up full custody of his child to move a few states away to be with her. If he does this for his 8-year-old, I feel like he would be willing to do this to her future children!😳

How do I be supportive when my friends come to me about their relationships? I don’t want to come off as jealous when I give them advice, but lately I stare at them with a “resting mean girl face” because I just don’t want to hear it!

Any tips on what to say, do, or how to be a good friend would be appreciated!
