Sarah Palin's Defamation Suit Against the New York Times Bungled By Incompetent Judge, Why?

A Defamation Lawsuit is always a hard case to prove and win. When one gets thrown out, it's not uncommon, but when one gets screwed up this badly, it's a learning moment.

Sarah Palin, the former Governor of Alaska, sued the New York Times over a defamatory article published in 2017 and got the trial all the way through to Jury Deliberations, only for the Judge, the Clinton-Appointed Jed Rakoff, agreed with a motion raised by the Defense to essentially render the jury verdict moot by dismissing the case as it's alleged that the plaintiff had not met the threshold in their case to prove "actual malice."

That might be the case, but it is incredibly late in the trial to be making such a ruling, only for the Jury to return the very next day with a similar finding to the judge. It's an automatic appeal, and a needlessly complicated case for god only knows what reasons.
