The village of Carlingford nestles on the southern shore of Carlingford Lough – Slieve Foye mountain (said to be the resting place of the great giant Fionn McCool) acts as a massive and spectacular backdrop. On the far side of Carlingford Lough are the Mountains of Mourne – made famous in song.

Taking 2.5 hours to complete, the Slieve Foye Loop's terrain consists of tarmac and forestry roads, grassy track and mountain paths with one rough section which can be boggy and wet in places. There are some ascents – the initial ascent is very steep – and one descent.

Slieve Foy or Slieve Foye (Irish: Sliabh Feá) is a mountain on the Cooley Peninsula in Louth, Ireland. It rises to 589 metres (1,932 ft), making it the highest of the Cooley Mountains and the highest in Louth. It overlooks Carlingford Lough and the village of Carlingford, and is sometimes called Carlingford Mountain.
