Abu Dhabi vs Dubai

One of the major differences between Abu Dhabi and Dubai is that Dubai has successfully marketed itself, compared to Abu Dhabi, which is why we have heard so little about Abu Dhabi compared to Dubai. Dubai is well established in terms of overseas investment interests and the property market, but Abu Dhabi is getting more appeal than Dubai in terms of long-term investment plans. Experts predict that Abu Dhabi real estate prices are growing and expanding. Dubai’s real estate market, when compared to Abu Dhabi, is overpriced, whereas Abu Dhabi is considered to have significant room for growth, and is competitively more expensive than London real estate. Abu Dhabi has a stricter legal system when compared to Dubai.

Abu Dhabi is a much calmer, more traditional city and more family and community-led than Dubai. There’s more focus on a good work-life balance here in the capital. “The best part of living in the UAE is the quality of life and the opportunities that living here affords us. Other bonuses are the good weather (if a touch on the hot side for a large part of the year!), central location for travel and access to affordable services — dry cleaning pick-up and delivery anyone?! It’s small things like these that make a very big difference.

“Dubai is great for shopping and it’s great to have it down the road, but I’m much happier now in Abu Dhabi. We loved Dubai and it’s great when you just want to have some fun, but all the action can get a bit much after a while.”

Dubai is known for its party scenes and nightlife, whereas Abu Dhabi nights are quieter and more peaceful. Abu Dhabi has beautiful parks, wider roads with high buildings, and tree-lined streets, whereas Dubai has shopping malls, awesome late-night fun, and is very noisy. Both of the cities have over-crowded traffic hours and traffic jams, and a growing number of accidents is occurring on Dubai roads.

The temperatures of both the cities is almost the same, and they are only two hours away from each other. Abu Dhabi is traditional, whereas Dubai has a western touch, and it is a cosmopolitan state of UAE. Tourists prefer Dubai for holidays and leisure, whereas Abu Dhabi is preferred for residential purposes. Dubai is much busier than Abu Dhabi, and the population is less than that of Dubai. If we compare food expenses, Abu Dhabi again beats Dubai, because you can eat the same food at a much cheaper rate in Abu Dhabi. If you want to inter travel between the cities, a cab is the first choice for tourists. It is easy to get a cab from Abu Dhabi to Dubai, but quite difficult to find a cab and go back to Abu Dhabi from Dubai.

Abu Dhabi holds more than eighty percent of the land of UAE, and is considered to be richer than Dubai. It is small, but has more political importance than Dubai, because it is the capital of UAE. Abu Dhabi is rich in oil, and its net income levels are higher, and still on the rise when compared to Dubai.

Summary:

1. Abu Dhabi is the capital of UAE, and holds more political significance.

2. Dubai is busy and overcrowded, with higher living expenses than Abu Dhabi.

3. Dubai is the business hub of many national and international companies.

4. Abu Dhabi is richer, and its net income level growth rate is higher than Dubai’s.

5. Dubai has more influence from western culture, whereas Abu Dhabi holds more traditional values.

Many theories have been proposed as to the origin of the word "Dubai". One theory suggests the word used to be the souq in Ba. An Arabic proverb says "Daba Dubai" (Arabic: دبا دبي‎), meaning "They came with a lot of money. According to Fedel Handhal, a scholar on the UAE's history and culture, the word Dubai may have come from the word daba (Arabic: دبا‎) (a past tense derivative of yadub (Arabic: يدب‎), which means "to creep"), referring to the slow flow of Dubai Creek inland. The poet and scholar Ahmad Mohammad Obaid traces it to the same word but to its alternative meaning of "baby locust" (Arabic: جراد‎) due to the abundance of locusts in the area before settlement.
