Elizabeth Stride was a Swedish immigrant. In Sweden she was considered a “lecherous woman,” in London she co-ran a coffee shop, was a con artist and eventually a murder victim of Jack the Ripper, the most famous and mysterious serial killer in history. This is the story of her life. This is the third episode of the Jack the Ripper Victim’s series. My main source was the brilliant book, “The Five” by Hallie Rubenhold and I highly recommend reading it. It is a brilliant commentary on the social history of Victorian London, and specifically the treatment of women.
