Body weight training is liberating, many call this form of training Calisthenics, the root of Calisthenics means Beautiful Strength in Greek and that name reflects the beauty of this great way to train the body.

Isometrics are a form of training where you hold a position and the joints are not actively moving. Isometrics are a powerful way to train around injuries, maintain muscle tone, build endurance and a great way to get a quick workout in when out of town, or in a place with limited space. Try to work in a set of Jumprope between sets. I normally like to do 3 sets of each exercise. Increase time as you train.

These are static lunge holds. Lunge forward, if necessary use hands against wall to guide you and maintain balance. Keep back straight, ears over shoulders, chest proud, shoulders down and back. I like to put hands to side to maintain balance as well as focus on a point in front of me.

Go to a comfortable depth, ideal is back leg about parallel to the ground and front legs knee not passing over toes, it’s about being your best, we’re not in competition with anyone but ourselves. Try to hold for 30 seconds plus, increase as you train.
