Home Renovations: Pantry Make-Over
Hey Everyone!
Here is project #2 in my home renovation series. My husband and I are trying to get as many projects down before we move in and before the next contractor start on the floors and the house becomes off limits.
This is a "How I did it" video with all the steps I did. It was a pretty easy make-over, but I had to do a LOT of waiting for things to dry. The more challenging part was the paint removal. I don't know how many layers of paint were on the shelves before I started, but it was tough to remove. I also had to remove all the solvent from the boards in order to run them through my planer. The Kwik-Strip was easy to remove, but I only had that on 4 of the 11 boards. I used the Cirtistrip on the rest. THAT was a nightmare. I did not like how messy it was and the residue that was left over was hard to remove. Maybe I was doing it wrong, who knows. But out of the two products. I like the Kwik-Strip better. If you use this product, make sure you are outside or in a well ventilated area and wear protective gear. Also, if it is cold out, it will work, but not as good as if it was 60°. So keep that in mind.
After I primed and painted all of the shelves and walls. I decided to run a bead of caulk where the shelves met the wall. Reason is because the shelves were not perfectly flush to the wall and had gaps. So I didn't want any food or whatever to fall behind there. After everything was dried, I went back and put a sealant on the shelves. I did this to protect the shelves from spills and with them being ultra while, I didn't want a can of beans to scuffs or chip the paint after all of my hard work.
I don't recommend using the Liquid Nails. I should have just nailed or screwed the shelves in place. The Liquid nail does work and will hold, but if anything happens and I need to take a shelf out, it is going to break the wood and definitely mess up the wall. I thought at the time, using this product I could have no nail holes showing and won't damage the wall with the hammer or accidently split the wood. Lessoned learned. Side note : On the 2 top shelves, I did go back and place a few nails in them since it only has support on 2 sides and not 3 like the others.
So if you are looking to give your pantry a little make-over. Paint and wallpaper makes a BIG difference.
As always, thank you for watching, thank you for being here and all of your support! If you are new Welcome! PLEASE, like, share and subscribe! Don't forget to follow me on IG. Link below.
