Where Or When (Dion & the Belmonts, 1959-1960;). Live cover performance by Bill Sharkey, Home Studio, Hawaii Kai, HI. 2022-02-02. "Keeping the Oldies Alive"

Written by Richard Rogers and Lorenz Hart in 1937 for the film "Babes in Arms," "Where or When" has been recorded by well over 120 artists (Wikipedia, 2022); however, Dion & the Belmonts' recording is one of the most recognizable versions. Recorded in 1959, their version rose to the #3 position in 1960 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart; this was the group's third top 20 hit and their highest charting single (Whitburn, 2013). Later that year, Dion (DiMucci) and the Belmonts went their separate recording ways (last.fm, 2016). Other charted versions include: Hal Kemp (1937 #1), Guy Lumbardo (1943 #19), and The Lettermen (1964 #98) (Whitburn, 1986; 2013). As a fateful side note, in the winter of 1959, [Dion &] the Belmonts were touring with Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. Richardson (aka The Big Bopper). On February 3, 1959 Holly, Valens, and Richardson died in a plane crash after finishing a concert and heading to a new gig in Iowa (J. Doyle, pophistorydig.com, Jan 11, 2013). Dion had a chance to join the others on the plane, but he said that he "did not take the plane because he thought the $36 price for the trip was too high" (IMDb.com, 2022; J. Doyle, pophistorydig.com, Jan 11, 2013).

Lyrics:

It seems we stood and talked like this before
We looked at each other in the same way then
But I can't remember where or when

The clothes you're wearing are the clothes you wore
The smile you are smiling you were smiling then
But I can't remember where or when

Some things that happen for the first time
Seem to be happening again

And so it seems that we have met before
And laughed before
And loved before
But who knows where or when
