The ACLJ and our international affiliate the European Centre for Law and Justice (ECLJ) are taking action at the United Nations after a devastating report. We’ve submitted five critical written submissions to the U.N. Human Rights Council on some of the worst persecuting nations that require immediate intervention. The first of those is Afghanistan, after President Biden allowed the Taliban to take over the country.

In our report we stated:

"The situation for Christians has become so dangerous under Taliban rule that in its 2022 World Watch List, Open Doors listed Afghanistan as the worst place for Christians to live in the entire world."

It’s the first time in two decades that another nation has exceeded North Korea in persecutions. And what changed? President Biden’s botched withdrawal from Afghanistan, which left Christians in the hands of the Taliban.

We will be making oral presentations to the United Nations in addition to our written reports over this. ACLJ Director of Government Affairs Thann Bennett explained the significance of our reports:

"What a perfect example of U.S. foreign policy having the impact of life and death around the world. It is in that space that our work at the ACLJ becomes even more important, because we speak into voids that the United States government is not speaking in. . . .You talk about legal efforts on the ground with our affiliate offices. You talk about advocacy at the United Nations at the Human Rights Council. Then you talk about taking action, working with partners on the ground to actually make things happen. It takes a lot of people and a lot of resources, but again, life and death impact based on these actions that we are taking."

In other troubling news, under President Biden’s leadership, the Administration has now given Iran – the world’s largest sponsor of terrorism – nuclear sanction relief. The Biden Administration is so desperate to reach a deal with Iran and return to the flawed Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action (JCPOA) that they are giving their nuclear program full range including unfreezing $29 billion of Iran’s frozen funds held overseas.

ACLJ Senior Counsel for Global Affairs and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo explained in his new article how the Biden Administration continues to display weakness and added how this move is another weak one:

"I try to be generous and think through why someone might have done it. Anyone who has ever negotiated anything . . . you don’t give them a gift with nothing in expectation of return. . . . That’s what they did here. This reeks of desperation. American diplomats are headed back to Vienna this week. They are going to try to cut this deal to protect what President Obama had done during his time – this nuclear deal which guaranteed a pathway for a nuclear weapon. The ramifications are really deep. For the Israelis, they will now confront an Iran that not only has a nuclear weapons program, but money and wealth . . . giving the Iranians the ability to do lots more work and terror. This is the same regime that held Americans hostage for 444 days before President Reagan came into office."

The Biden Administration is also doing this while they have put massive sanctions on Russia if they go through with an invasion into Ukraine. Sec. Pompeo explained the timing of this:

"These are all deeply connected. The world saw Xi and Putin stand together in the opening of the genocide Olympics, we saw them cozying up to each other essentially opposing a challenge to the West, the United States, to Europe, and India, Japan, and South Korea saying alright, here’s our team, this is what we look like. This is what authoritarianism looks like. This is what the denial of basic human rights and what the denial of any religious freedom looks like and what are you prepared to do about that? And when the answer to that is allow them to shut down a pipeline here in the U.S. where gasoline flowed and do nothing, to let them build Nord Stream 2 and put Europe more at risk, and now to hand the Iranians a gift, I think these dictators, these bad guys, think they can run the house. I pray that is not the case for these next three years."

ACLJ Director of Policy Harry Hutchison summed it up:

"The Biden Administration is . . . inflicted with the disease of incoherence. They don’t really know what they are doing. And I think the capper here is 29 billion to Iran to maybe get them to the table."

Today’s full Sekulow broadcast is complete with even more analysis of the report over the persecution of Christians worldwide and the Biden Administration lifting nuclear sanctions on Iran.
