In Morocco, they are trying to save a five-year-old boy who fell into a 32-meter well
Rescuers and volunteers have been trying for the third day to raise to the surface a boy who fell into a 32-meter well in northern Morocco. According to local media reports, five-year-old Ryan was playing near a well in the city of Tartu, 100 kilometers from the northern province of Shefshauen, and accidentally fell inside. Ryan's father told local media that he searched for the child for several hours, after which he realized that he had fallen into a well. "I pray to God that he will come out of this well unharmed. Lord, ease his torment in this dusty hole," the mother of the missing boy, Vasima Kharchi, told a local TV channel.
According to rescuers, on Thursday they managed to lower oxygen and water to the bottom of the well using a rope. "I managed to talk to the child, I asked if he could hear me. He answered. I waited for about a minute and saw that he had used oxygen," Imad Fahmy, a Red Cross and Crescent volunteer, told local media. Volunteers also lowered a camera to the bottom to monitor the boy. Despite the fall from a great height, the video footage shows that the boy is conscious, he has minor head injuries. With the help of five bulldozers, rescuers dug a hole 19 meters deep parallel to the well. Then they will dig three meters horizontally between the pit and the well to get the child, according to media reports.
Rescue work is hampered by the narrow hole of the well, about 25 centimeters in diameter. At a depth of more than 25 meters, this hole becomes even narrower, so previous attempts to reach the child were unsuccessful. Doctors and a helicopter are on duty at the scene, which will take the boy to the nearest hospital. Government spokesman Mustafa Baytas said that the authorities are closely monitoring the situation and are looking for ways to help the child. Thousands of people have expressed support for the boy on social networks: the hashtag #SaveRayan has been in the top of Twitter trends in Morocco for several hours.
