Redemptive Suffering
31st in our series the Book of 1 Peter

I. The Sufferings of Christ - 1 Peter 2:20-23

A. We are called to suffering as disciples of Jesus Christ
B. His example of suffering is the model we follow
1. He did no sin, not even when treated in the most unjust, wicked and cruel fashion
2. He did not deceive with His lips when deeply wronged thus fulfilling the prophecy of Isaiah - 53:9
3. He did not revile the evildoers - When He had abuse heaped upon Him, He didn’t return that evil
4. He did not threaten the wicked
C. Jesus did not entertain paybacks
1. We are called to imitate Christ - Romans 12:19-21
2. God will repay in full measure those who remain unrepentant
D. Jesus forgave His murderers - they would have to repent, believe and receive Jesus as Lord and Savior to avoid the sternal punishment they earned for their sins
E. Jesus committed Himself fully to God - Luke 23:44-46

II. The Blessing His Suffering Accomplished - 1 Peter 2:24-25

A. The unparalleled benefits of Christ sacrifice
1. Salvation for the lost in this world
2. The Good Shepherd brought home the lost sheep
B. What good is suffering? - James 1:2-4 growth in Christlikeness
C. How can our suffering benefit anyone else? - 2 Corinthians 1:3-7
1. God comforts us in our suffering
2. In order that we may in turn comfort others with that same comfort we have received
3. The salvation of the lost may be accomplished
