The Tupp's Indispensable has been around since (at least) 1890. I think the original fly was a tied as a dry fly but I am not certain. I discovered it in Sylvester Nemes book Two Centuries of Soft-Hackled Flies. Thus, this is the soft hackle version. It is another Clyde style fly (like the Reid's Assassin I did a few weeks ago) and that mostly means that it is a sparse fly. Other than mixing my own wool dubbing this fly is a very quick fly to tie. If you are interested in this particular fly I recommend doing a little research and reading up about where the name comes from and how the original "secret" dubbing was developed. A fun one for any fan of soft hackles, - Enjoy
