This episode is, in more ways than one, all about beginnings. Michael and Armen talk about not only where they first met, but what made the place, Abril Bookstore, on its own, so special. Nestled in the heart of downtown Glendale, California, Abril has been a regular staple of local Armenian life and culture for more than thirty years. Meet its wonderful owner Arno Yeretzian and take a gander at the bookstore's unrivaled collection of books, music, and videos. Next, Armen and Michael discuss the Treaty of Sèvres, the peace agreement signed between the Allies and the Ottoman Empire in August 1920, which formally brought the war to a close, but, as a result of it never being ratified, was never implemented as intended. Had the treaty come into effect, the Ottoman Empire would have been partitioned piece by piece, and the map of the modern Middle East would have looked very, very different today. They also discuss how Tehlirian fits within this pivotal period. Finally, what does "Lord of the Rings" director Peter Jackson's recent documentary "They Shall Not Grow Old" have to do with anything? What does bringing to life the voices of British and Commonwealth soldiers serving in the First World War (1914-1918) and colorized footage of tanks rolling across the fields of Flanders and soldiers marching toward the trenches offer for a story about the tribulations of a young man fighting on a front thousands of miles away? To wit, what did the Caucasus Front look like back in 1916? It's all this and more on Hollywood and History. Got a question for us?
